| As Deputy Governor, Dr. Mohan will look after the Monetary Policy Department, Department of Statistical Analysis and Computer Services, Department of Economic Analysis and Policy, Secretary's Department, Financial Market Department and also Co-ordination work.
Earlier, in September 2002, he was appointed as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank for a period of three years. He relinquished that post in October 2004 when he was appointed as Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Born on January 14, 1948, Dr. Rakesh Mohan received his Masters degree and Doctorate in Economics from Princeton University and BA in Economics from Yale University. He is also a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London.
Dr. Rakesh Mohan has researched extensively in the areas of economic reforms and liberalisation, industrial economics, urban economics, infrastructure studies and economic regulation. monetary policy and the financial sector. He is the author of three books on urban economics and urban development and co-author of one on Indian economic policy reforms and of numerous articles.
Dr. Rakesh Mohan has been Director and Chief Executive of the Indian Council for Research and International Economic Relations and Vice Chairman, Infrastructure Development Finance Company. He also held the position of Adviser to the Finance Minister and Chief Economic Adviser between January 4, 2001 and May 15, 2002. He has also been Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister; Member of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India; Member of the Board of Governors, Institute of Economic Growth; Member, Board of Governors, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy; Member, Governing Body, National Council of Applied Economic Research; Member, Board of Governors, Madras School of Economics; Member of the Atomic Energy Commission and of the Space Commission. As Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs he was also Alternate Governor of the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
Recently, he co-chaired the G20 Working Group “Enhancing Sound Regulation and Strengthening Transparency” (2009). He also co-chaired the “Committee on Financial Sector Assessment” (2009) set up by the Government of India. He also chaired the “Working Group on Capital Flows and Emerging Market Economies” (2009) (set up by the Committee on Global Financial System). Earlier, he chaired the Expert Group on Railways (1999-2001); Expert Group on Commercialisation of Infrastructure Projects (1994-96) and the Expert Group on Petrochemicals (1992-93).
He also Co-chaired the Joint Study Group on economic cooperation between India and Singapore (2002-2003); India and Sri Lanka (2003-2004), and India and China (2004-2005)
He served as Economic Adviser to the Government of India in the Ministry of Industry (1988-1996) where he played a major role in the formulation of the new Industrial, Trade and Foreign Investment Policy and at the Development Policy Division of the Planning Commission (1986-1988). He has also been Director of the State Bank of India, National Housing Bank, Industrial Reconstruction Bank of India, the Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India (ICICI) and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). He has also been a Member of Tariff Authority for Major Ports (1997-2002) and the Securities Exchange Board of India (2001-02).
He is the author of three books on urban economics and urban development, as well as numerous articles. His latest book “Monetary Policy in a Globalised World: A Practitioner’s View” (Oxford University Press) was released in February 2009. |

In 2005, he was appointed by the UK Government as ‘Dealmaker’: In that role he is responsible for searching for new technologies in India of exceptional potential and of strategic importance to the United Kingdom and facilitating deals to have the companies locate their global HQ to the UK.
He is also founder of AlpeshPatelSpreads.com – an online share betting company. He co-produced his own brand of investment software – Sharescope Alpesh Patel Special Edition with the UK’s largest private investor software company.Alpesh is a Board Member of the UK India Business Council and has been a Board Director since 2000 of TiE-UK promoting entrepreneurship globally. He was previously a member for five years of the UK India Roundtable appointed by the UK Foreign Secretary.
Alpesh was made a Visiting Fellow in Business & Industry, Corpus Christi College, Oxford University. He has won stock-picking competitions on Channel 4, Bloomberg TV and Financial Times and previously he sat on the Investment Advisory Committee of ICICI’s Private Banking Division. Alpesh started a weekly column in the Financial Times in 1999 and has had over 200 columns on investing published in the paper as well as being a regular markets commentator on CNBC Asia, CNN, BBC. Alpesh also co-hosted a weekly show for three years on Bloomberg TV.
Alpesh is the author of 11 investment and business books published by Financial Times and McMillan translated into 8 languages. Alpesh has a degree in Philosophy, Politics, Economics from Oxford University and in Law from King’s College, London. He is a non-practicing barrister. He led PepsiCo’s entry into India, an initiative that became the basis of a Harvard Business School case study and led to his being the first recipient of Pepsi-Cola International’s High Performance Leadership Award in 1992.
Ramesh was invited to serve on the Board of Infosys Technologies Ltd (www.infosys.com) as its first independent and overseas Director in 1997.
Prior to founding the Scandent Group, now Cambridge Solutions, Ramesh was the Chairman of Seagram Asia Pacific, (now Pernod Ricard) and part of its global executive board.

Amit Mehra | Managing Director, Reuters Market Light
Amit Mehra joined Reuters in Nov 2001 in the London office as Manager, New Business Development and was the Vice President – Content Operations till he became the MD of RML. At Thomson Reuters, Amit has led and managed a range of business development, new venture development, growth strategy and operational initiatives. |

This included offshoring of content operations, a global content transformation program, and setting up a television JV.
In Jan 2006, Amit started building Reuters Market Light (RML), a pioneering business that sells a personalized professional information service to the farming community. Within 18 months of launch, RML’s subscriptions were bought by over 80,000 farmers in over 10,000 villages in three states in India, and have benefitted nearly a million farmers. The financial benefits to farmers due to RML have ranged from $10 to $8000 over only a few weeks or months of using RML.
Prior to Reuters, Amit worked with a German government funded organization in New Delhi, and helped Indian businesses grow in Germany, Malaysia, Czech Republic, and South Africa in industries ranging from handicrafts to engineering goods. He also did a brief stint with Mitchell Madison Group (MMG) in Strategy Consulting in London.
Amit sat on Reuters Advisory Board for Corporate Responsibility, is a founding member of Pratham, Germany, and has been a member of the London Cartoon Art Trust. Professor Birkinshaw's main area of expertise is in the strategy and management of large multinational corporations, and on such specific issues as corporate entrepreneurship, innovation, subsidiary-headquarters relationship, knowledge management, network organisations, and global customer management. He is the author of ten books, including Giant Steps in Management (2007), Inventuring: Why Big Companies Must Think Small (2003), Leadership the Sven-Goran Eriksson Way (2002) and Entrepreneurship in the Global Firm (2001), and over fifty articles. He is active as a consultant and executive educator to many large companies, including Rio Tinto, SAP, ABN AMRO, GSK, ABB, Ericsson, Kone, Exxon, WPP, Bombardier, Sara Lee, HSBC, Akzo Nobel, Roche, Thyssen Krupp, UBS, PWC, Coloplast, BBC and Novo Nordisk.

Mars/Masterfoods (consumer products company). 2006-7. I advised the top management team of the Central and Eastern European business on how to improve their innovation process.

Rio Tinto (UK-based mining company). 2004-5. I directed an executive programme for two years to provide greater understanding of strategy to the managing directors of their businesses. Novo Nordisk (Danish pharmaceutical company). 2004. I led the European market region management team in a review and re-formulation of their strategy. This process involved approximately 10 days work over a 12-month period.

Prior to Clutch Group, Mr. Shah led the sale of Mphasis, a global IT & Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services company with over 12,000 employees for $800 million. While at Mphasis, he spearheaded the strategy to integrate the acquisition of a leading US healthcare solutions provider. Previously, Mr. Shah was a Sr. Consultant at Accenture, where he led multiple client engagements at Fortune 100 companies in the telecommunications and pharmaceutical industries.
Mr. Shah is also the co-founder of the Alliance for US India Business (AUSIB) and the US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC). AUSIB promotes investment and trade between the US and India, and in conjunction with the House International Relations Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, launched the Congressional Task Force on US-India Investment and Trade Relations. USINPAC is the largest national bi-partisan advocacy organization representing over 2 million Indian Americans and works with members of Congress, as well as the White House, to ensure that the community's concerns are addressed. As part of his work with AUSIB and USINPAC, Mr. Shah has led Congressional, Gubernatorial, and CEO delegations to India for talks with the Prime Minister as well as with India's leading government and business leaders.
